Divorce

Divorce matters are opened and worked directly by our team, not self-service — every file gets a conflict check, a structured intake, and a named Attorney from day one.

What this involves

Tell us a little about your situation below and we will get back to you to open a file, or to answer questions first if that is where you are at.

We handle both unopposed divorces (where both parties agree on the terms, usually finalised via a settlement agreement made an order of court) and opposed divorces, which go through pleadings, discovery, and potentially trial where parties disagree on issues like asset division, maintenance, or care of children.

Matrimonial property regime matters — in community of property, out of community with accrual, or without accrual — directly shape how assets are divided, and we work this out early so there are no surprises later in the process.

Where children are involved, we also handle parenting plans and, where necessary, referrals to the Family Advocate's office, and can carry a related maintenance enforcement matter through afterward under the same file.

How long does it take?

An unopposed divorce can often be finalised in 6 to 10 weeks once both parties sign a settlement agreement. A contested divorce that proceeds to trial commonly takes 12 to 24 months, sometimes longer.

What will it cost?

R9 000 to R18 000 excl. VAT

Covers: An uncontested divorce with a signed settlement. Contested matters are quoted after an assessment.

Based on 6 to 12 hours of Attorney time at our rate of R1 500 per hour, excluding VAT.

This is an estimate, not a quote. The final fee depends on the facts and how complex your matter turns out to be, and your Attorney confirms it in writing before work starts. Court fees, sheriff’s fees, counsel and other disbursements are charged separately.

  3. We act, you stay informed

We prepare the work, the Attorney signs off before anything is filed or sent, and you are kept up to date throughout.
